Creative Development - Making music

Children:
[one starts playing her instrument, the others gradually join in]
Adult:
You've got to keep repeating it over and over, Charlotte. [starts to tap out regular beat on tambourine]
Children:
[almost all join in]
Adult:
Do you think you could make one, Eleanor? What, do you want to have a go on this? [others stop playing] Shall I have a go on that, then? Right, Eleanor, what could you make up for us? Try… hold them that way.
Children:
[two go to swap their instruments from the instrument box]
Adult:
I know, sweetheart, but they want to keep them there until after lunchtime, is that OK?
Child 1:
Yes, OK.
Adult:
Good, right, Eleanor's turn!
Child 2:
[inaudible]
Adult:
Pardon? [starts a tick-tock beat, and some of the others join in, child 2 included]
Child 2:
[changes to a 1-2-123 style beat; adult follows lead as do other children]
Adult:
That's really good! Well done, Charlie! Excellent!
Child 3:
[slightly off-beat]
Adult:
Listen. Can I have a turn now? Ready, everybody, listen. [initiates a new beat]
Child 3:
[again, slightly off-beat]
Adult:
Listen. Ba-ram, ba-bum. Ba-ram, ba-bum. Ba-ram, ba-bum. Ba-ram, ba-bum. Ba-ram, ba-bum. Ba-ram, ba-bum. Ba-ram, ba-bum. Well done! Do you want to do one?
