Creativity and Critical Thinking - Pirates' treasure

Adult:
This is a nice one with that one there, look.
Adult:
How many do you think you'll get on your boat?
Child 1:
One, two, three.
Adult:
Three. Shall we try it to see if we can get three on your boat, then?
Adult:
Is he sitting in?
Child 1:
Yep.
Adult:
Oh yes. Put it on the flat bit here, look. It might help you, look. Put it there, look. That's it.
Child 1:
He won't go in.
Adult:
He won't go in? Is he too big? What about one of these ones? Does that one fit or is he too big as well?
Child 1:
Oh, this one might fit.
Adult:
That one might fit.
Child 1:
Yeah, it did fit.
Adult:
It does fit. 'Cos you could have a little treasure chest in there look, and you could have one pirate and then he's got all the treasure, hasn't he? What's in that chest, have we had a look?
Child 1:
I've put some big ones here.
Adult:
Oh, that's some nice jewels in there, shall we have a look? Do you want to put them on my hand and we can have a look, can't we? Wow, oh, which one's your favourite one there?
Child 1:
All of them.
Adult:
All of them? Do you know, I like that one. Very shiny, isn't it, that one.
Child 1:
Put them back.
Adult:
Put them back? OK, then.
Child 1:
So nobody can see them.
Adult:
So nobody can see them?
Child 1:
No.
Adult:
All right, OK. Is it going to be a secret?
Adult:
What colour's that?
Child 1:
Green.
Adult:
It's green, it is green, isn't it? I like that one. There you go, I'll help you. See any more that might go in?
Adult:
Ah, will that go in? Yeah, what else have we got that might go in? See if you can dig for any more.
Child 1:
Oh, here's one.
Adult:
Oh, well spotted. That was a good one, then, wasn't it? That's quite a big one as well, isn't it? Take some of the sand out, there you are, that's a nice big green one, that one. What else can we see? Keep digging, keep digging. See if you can find any more.
Adult:
Oh, there's another one. Do you think you've got enough in your box now, then?
Child 1:
No.
Adult:
No?
Child 1:
We need to get all the treasure.
Adult:
We need to get all the treasure? Is it full, your box? Do you think it's full yet?
Adult:
No, I think you can get some more in as well.
Adult:
Oh, ha-ha. You're finding a lot of treasure that I didn't know was in there, Charlie, aren't you?
Child 1:
That's 'cos this goes well deep.
Adult:
'Cos you're digging really well, yes, you are. What else can we find? Is there any more in that bit? No?
Child 1:
You can have a go and do.
Adult:
What's that one?
Child 1:
A snail.
Adult:
Like a snail?
Child 1:
A sea nail.
Adult:
Let's have a look, then, do you want to put it on my…
Child 1:
A sea nail.
Adult:
What lives in there, then?
Child 1:
A sea nail.
Adult:
A sea snail, yes. Do you think that's going to fit in your box or is it going to be too big? Is it gonna fit? Are you going to try and close it? Shall I hold it and you try and close it?
Adult:
Oh, what's happened now?
Child 1:
It's too big.
Adult:
It's too big. What are we going to have to do, then?
Child 2:
You put it out.
Adult:
Yes, we have to take it out, don't we, Laura, cos it's too big. Do you think it's gonna fit now? Shut the door up. Oh dear.
Child 2:
Too big.
Adult:
Too many in there, do you think or not enough?
Child 2:
Not enough.
Adult:
Not enough? Are you going to put that, shut it up?
Adult:
I don't think it's gonna shut, is it, Charlie. Why isn't it gonna shut?
Child 1:
Too many.
Adult:
Too many in there. Oh, Charlie.
