Boys into books

The DCSF has specially commissioned the School Library Association to produce two booklists in their Riveting Reads series, to support the reading needs of boys in Key Stages 1, 2 and 3.

Boys into Books 5-11 was officially launched by Schools Minister Jim Knight in June 2008, and the books, booklists and supporting materials are being rolled out by local authority library services around England over the next few months. To view the resources click the following link:

Boys into Books 11-14 concentrates on boys in Key Stage 3. From mid May until mid September 2007, state schools in England having at least 20 boys of this age group were able to order 20 titles from the booklist, free of charge, as well as specially-designed supporting materials (posters and postcards). To view the resources click the following link:

Additionally, in early 2008 local authorities in England were provided with funding to buy books from the 11-14 booklist for boys in pupil referral units.
