Supporting the new agenda for children's services and schools: the role of Learning Mentors and co-ordinators

This guide was developed by a group of learning mentor strand co-ordinators - the Forward Focus Group - which consists of Linda Disney (Bradford), Gill Dawson (Leeds), Vicky Moss (Sheffield), Julie Noble (Tameside), Eileen Horrocks (St Helens) and Sarah Stokoe (Doncaster), supported by Anne Hayward, writer of the original Learning Mentor Good Practice Guide, who provided invaluable support to so many partnerships, schools and co-ordinators across the country in developing and implementing the Learning Mentor role. It was initially written by Anne Hayward and developed further by Rachel Pope (DfES), Chris Davison (DfES consultant adviser) and Leora Cruddas (Waltham Forest and DfES secondee) on behalf of DfES. Supporting materials are drawn from the practice of the Forward Focus Group.

The document will assist planners and decision-makers in schools and local authorities in mainstreaming the role of learning mentors and maximising their contribution to the new agenda.  It also highlights the importance of maintaining and developing co-ordination roles in this changing environment, to ensure coherence and continuity of support for children and young people.
