Learning Mentor Coordinators

The following support for Learning Mentor Co-ordinators is described in the Learning Mentor Co-ordinator Support Document.

As well as the above, newly appointed co-ordinators may find the following two documents useful:

  • Induction Checklist - constructed with the support of Co-ordinators working in a task group, this checklist is a useful tool in structuring your induction and helping you to develop an effective support network for your work.
  • Objectives Grid - constructed as above, and useful in analysing your work and support/development needs. It spilts the role into different levels of operational responsibility as field research has shown that co-ordinators can work at a variety of different levels.

We would be grateful if newly appinted co-ordinators of area provision, or those picking up this role as part of wider responsibilities, could email us with their contacts details, and a brief outline of their role. We will then be able to include them on our contacts database and information system, and offer appropriate support as required. The email address for this is learning.mentors@cwdcouncil.org.uk .

New publications include:

  • The "Ticket to the Future" publication, which provides in depth information and support in relation to NOS LDSS, their genesis and application, and the subsequent accredited training framework.
  • The "Monitoring and Evaluation of the Learning Mentor Programme in the Context of ECM and the New Relationship with Schools" document provides useful advice on strategies to measure impact of LM activity, and reflects the requirements of NrWS and the broader Every Child Matters agenda. It was produced by the Peer Support Team in September.
  • "Supporting the New Agenda for Children's Services and Schools: the role of Learning Mentors and Co-ordinators", DfES 2005, is now available for download through our Schools and Local Authorities page: www.standards.dcsf.gov.uk/learningmentors/sfp/csandschools/. This guide for planners, managers agencies and schools has been produced with the aim of supporting the movement of the work from initiative to mainstream status. It draws from practice and the range of products produced centrally over the last year.
  • The "Learning Mentors Supporting Student Voices" report written by Leora Cruddas (Waltham Forest) on behalf of the Learning Mentor Strand Co-ordinator Task Group exploring student voice, soon to be available on this site.

A range of support materials are available through the various sections of this site, and through the Support Materials download page.
