Interactive Whiteboard Resources

ICT has a significant role to play in supporting direct teaching and independent child initiated learning. However, ICT resources must not be seen as a replacement for good teaching using practical, visual, aural and kinaesthetic approaches to learning.

In the ‘teach’ part of the four part teaching sequence, where new learning is being demonstrated by the class teacher, then ICT can engage children in the learning, enhance it and work effectively alongside other tools and strategies. The same resources can then be used independently by children to help them secure and internalise their learning, practising and applying what they have learned through the medium of ICT.

These particular files are intended for use on an Interactive Whiteboard. They are examples that exemplify some of the facilities of an IWB which support the learning and teaching of blending and segmenting. Practitioners are encouraged to develop additional resources in order to fully exploit the possibilities for supporting teaching and learning using ICT.

Adobe Flash versions of several of these files are also available. Additional file types will be made available over time.

IWB resources have a positive part to play in the Rose review recommendation about the importance of multi-sensory approaches.

Note: If you are using Internet Explorer, you may find that these resources incorrectly appear as .zip files when downloaded. If so, rename the file so it ends with '.notebook' rather than '.zip'.
