Trust school pathfinders announced

Twenty eight Trust school pathfinder projects involving nearly fifty schools were today announced by the Secretary of State for Education and Skills, Alan Johnson.

Trust schools are foundation schools supported by a charitable foundation or "Trust". They will be able to employ their own staff, set their own admission arrangements and manage their own land and assets. Trust schools are about building long-term relationships with partners and/or other schools

Alan Johnson also announced the appointment of Sir Bruce Liddington as Schools Commissioner. The Commissioner will work towards raising schools standards through acting as the national champion of choice, diversity and fair access in schools provision. In doing this, he will be looking to work very closely with Local Authorities as they take on their role as strategic commissioners of school places.
