Who We Are
The National Teacher Research Panel is sponsored by:
Department for Children, Schools and Families,
General Teaching Council for England,
National College for School Leadership and
Learning and Skills Improvement Service
The sponsors meet termly to:
- ensure that the Panel is well briefed about sponsors' research programmes on a coherent basis;
- coordinate their responses to suggestions from the Panel;
- provide information and advice; and
- mobilise their own networks and systems to further the Panel's work.
Administrative support for the Panel's work is based at the Centre for the Use of Research & Evidence in Education (CUREE). Whilst maintaining close links with its sponsors, the Panel retains a high degree of autonomy and is not representative of its sponsors.
The Panel has around 15 members, all of whom are practising teachers and tutors who are recruited via a challenging process for their expertise in teaching, research and relating the two. Panel members usually serve for three years and roughly one third of members rotate on and off the Panel each year.
Panel members are supported by a group of Specialist Advisers who provide additional research and subject expertise to support the Panel's work.
In addition, the sponsors nominate up to four practising teachers and tutors to act as ex officio members, whose role is to ensure effective liaison with individual sponsoring bodies and to contribute to appropriate Panel activities.
The Panel is currently chaired by Jill Martin, co-headteacher of The Anglo European School http://www.aesessex.co.uk/default.htm, a secondary school in Essex. Her Vice Chairs are Robin Bevan, deputy head of King Edward VI Grammar School http://www.kegswebsite.org.uk/ and Eileen Allpress, deputy head of Castle Hill Infant School http://www.castlehillinfantschool.co.uk/ in Ipswich.
The Panel is currently supported by a Professional Adviser and facilitator, Philippa Cordingley.
