Once the views of the governors are understood, it is important to discuss the agreement with the senior management team.
There is then a need to seek the support of the teaching and non-teaching staff.
The guidance states that:
While it is the school's governing body which has the legal responsibility for adopting the final form of the home-school agreement, in doing so they should liaise closely with the headteacher and other members of staff.
External agency workers that support the school also need to be aware of the agreement and given the opportunity to be consulted on its content. These might include education welfare officers, English as an additional language workers, social workers, health visitors and the community police officer. Many will promote the value of the agreement to parents who can sometimes be difficult to contact or consult.
Staff should be encouraged to give views on what they feel the agreement should and should not contain, and they should also consider how they will:
- contribute to the consultation process with pupils and parents
- support an effective and consistent approach to parent partnership work, once the agreement is established.
- help to monitor, evaluate and review the effectiveness of the agreement.
Some of these issues could be addressed through a staff meeting or in-service training session, which agency workers should also attend.
