Primary Leadership Programme (PLP) 2004-05
The (PLP) is a key element of the five year strategy's commitment to helping schools improve their capacity to lead learning and teaching for all children and raise standards at key stages 1 and 2. The PLP is developed by the Primary Strategy with the support of the National College for School Leadership.
The Primary Leadership Programme (PLP) aims to provide schools with the support they need to improve their leadership capacity to deliver excellent learning and teaching for all pupils and raise standards at both key stages 1 and 2. The programme is available to all primary schools including nursery, infant, first and junior schools, as well as special schools in the primary phase. Around 3,500 primary schools joined the programme in 2003-04 and a further 4,500 primary schools are expected to join in 2004-05.
A key element of the programme is the role of Primary Strategy Consultant Leaders (PSCLs) serving headteachers who have been recruited by LEAs to help leadership teams improve their capacity to raise children's progress in participating schools and significantly within their own schools. In 2003-04, 1,000 headteachers took up the post of PSCL and around 1,800 are expected to do so in 2004-05.
