REVIEW OF MATHEMATICS TEACHING IN PRIMARY SCHOOLS AND EARLY YEARS SETTINGS

The final report for the independent Review of Mathematics Teaching in Primary Schools and Early Years Settings has now been published. See press notice.

The report provides ten clear recommendations for improving the quality of mathematics teaching in Early Years Settings and Primary Schools. The report's key recommendation is for every primary school to have a Mathematics Specialist teacher within the next ten years. To view the report's recommendations, please click here. Background

The Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families asked Sir Peter Williams in July 2007 to undertake a review into the teaching of mathematics in primary schools and early years settings (click here for terms of reference). Following an intensive evidence-gathering period Sir Peter Williams published his Interim Report on 19 March.
