What is it?

Target setting, both for curriculum and for individual or groups of pupils, helps to focus and prioitise teaching. Target statements for writing was distributed to headteachers at the 'Leading on Literacy' conferences held in all LEAs during Autumn 2000 and Spring 2001. It sets out an illustrative set of targets for each year from YR to Y6 in different aspects of writing. The targets focus on the key aspects of writing that need to be addressed to raise standards.

This document summaries objectives in the NLS Framework for teaching, it should not be seen as a substitute for it.
