National Low-Attainers Pilot
The National Low-Attainers Pilot is a four-year initiative, exploring ways of maximising the progress of level 3 pupils by enabling the schools involved to consider radical changes in their Key Stage 3 curricula in terms of both structure and content.
Report on the first year - October 2005
This is an account of issues which arose from the schools' preparation year. There is also a description from each school of the curriculum that they originally planned.
Report on the second year - November 2006
This report recounts the lessons learned from the first teaching year of the pilot. It was used at regional dissemination conferences, which were held in autumn 2006. Each section has prompts in the form of questions, which schools embarking on a similar initiative could use for staff discussion and planning. The report is also complemented with a number of case studies for further guidance which are available to download below.
Report on the third year – September 2007
The official National Low-Attainers Pilot (LAP) is scheduled to finish at the end of March 2008, although schools will continue to support the LAP cohort beyond this date as they approach the end of the key stage tests. This interim report consists of an account on the progress of the LAP pupils and the lessons learned from the pilot so far. This is followed by an annexe containing examples of activities which have taken place in the pilot schools. A more comprehensive document will be published to mark the end of the pilot.
