PGCE students see the benefits of the ICT and Hammersmith and Fulham at the Kingwood City Learning Centre
The Kingwood City Learning Centre has organised two projects, which are aimed at PGCE students. Both projects were based on the effective and cutting edge use of ICT. Whilst serving to develop the students ICT skills, it is hoped that exposure to the Kingwood City Learning Centre will aid in the recruitment of NQT’s to our schools.
On Saturday February 8th a group of 16 students spent a day at the CLC with their tutor Sally Johnson. The students are all taking part in the Science Enhancement Programme at Kings (SEPAK). One of the aims of the day was to give the students hands on experience of a wide range of ICT applications available to Science teachers. The day included a Video Conference with the DfES as well as hands on practice with microscopes, data loggers and whiteboards. The students unanimously voted the day a success comments included “This course has changed my view of ICT in the classroom” “ An inspiring day – Thank you”
The second project involves a group of Primary ICT PGCE students from the Institute of Education who are working alongside Alison Towers on a project which includes pupils from Queens Manor School and Avondale Park in Kensington. The pupils are developing a collaborative story on bullying using the multimedia software package Kartouche. The pupils used a video conference to plan the project and are using the London Grid for Learning to further develop the story. If successful the project will be replicated and shared with others across London.
These projects might result in attracting new teachers to our schools. Don’t forget that the CLC also offers a wide range of support and resources for teachers and pupils in Hammersmith and Fulham schools. Visit the CLC website for more information www.kingwoodclc.net.
