When planning to set up a study support (out of school hours learning) activity, you may wish to consider taking the following steps:
- liaising with a variety of people such as staff, school governors, parents, students, and senior management, to explain the benefits of study support;
- identifying the different groups of pupils that could benefit from study support and which groups are priorities;
- consulting parents, students and teachers about what might be needed;
- developing a programme that meets students' wishes, where appropriate addresses their learning needs, and builds their capacity for learning. Above all, the activity should be enjoyable.
See 'The Essential Guide to the Impact of Sudy Support' for more information, including research findings and suggested ways of setting up a study support programme.
