When planning to set up a study support (out of school hours learning) activity, you may wish to consider taking the following steps:

• liaising with a variety of people such as staff, school governors, parents, students, and senior management, to explain the benefits of study support;
• identifying the different groups of pupils that could benefit from study support and which groups are priorities;
• consulting parents, students and teachers about what might be needed;
• developing a programme that meets students' wishes, where appropriate addresses their learning needs, and builds their capacity for learning. Above all, the activity should be enjoyable.
